Poker Tournament Preview

As most of my friends and family know, I've been a part of a weekly poker group for about ten years now. This group started out playing a wide variety of card games - including wild cards and non-poker variations. Over five years ago, the remaining original players including myself began playing no-limit Hold 'Em, and now the current group rarely plays anything else. The regular Wednesday night game is a $10 buy-in for the first hour, and unlimited afterwards. We have almost 10 regular players, which makes for a good evening of cards since at least seven will turn out each night. The game generally begins around 7 pm and concludes shortly after midnight.

For a change, we have decided to hold a tournament this coming week. This is not the first time we have tried a tournament format of play, but it will be the first one we've held that features rebuys. The reasoning behind the rebuys was to keep players from busting out of the tournament prematurely, especially since most players at our weekly game are used to playing much later into the evening. After researching tournament structure at home poker tourney, and discussion with members of the group, we settled on the structure posted below. We have aimed for a 4 hour tournament featuring 20 minute rounds, with rebuys allowed during the first 5 rounds. I'm hoping everyone has a great time, and I will report back on the success or failure of the evening. Shuffle up and deal!

Note: 1000 chips per buy-in/rebuy. 20 minute rounds.
